the 'Pol

so, Interpol last night.

- Singer-man looked rather like a male model styled to look like a 'sexy librarian'.
- Guitar-man had learned his one 'move' by watching old Jam videos (you could see his mind going 'time for my solo, step up and adopt that Paul Weller 1979 pose - the girlies will go wild!' in every song). He also clearly subscribes to the early-Weller 'pants half an inch too short' rule of tailoring.
- Carlos strutted and slutted about, jackbooted and 'SS-by-Lagerfeld, sweetie'-styled. Quite liked the 'bend at the waist and rest the bass on the floor' manoeuvre, though.
- and the smoking drummer. That's quite a fitness feat.

And the music, you ask? Well, friend S summed it up quite well when he said 'it was just like listening to both albums on shuffle, but *really* loud'.

It was good, but not in any way a transcendent experience.

7/10.

i'm so sick and am missing out tomorrow night, was it an "exciting" gig, or did they just go through the motions?

sorry to hear you're under the weather (is a bout of ascetic healthy living on the cards?)

i wasn't excited by the gig ... but 1000 or so other people (or however many the Metro holds) were, so maybe I'm just jaded and old.

Mercury Rev were much more exciting on Monday night, I thought, even though they didn't jump around as much (well, Jonathan did a lot of his Leonard Nimoy-meets-Vincent Price posing and 'conducting' the band!)

Interpol have been going downhill ever since Antics came out. Their performance on their first tour was awesome however, they played Turn On The Bright Lights in its entirety.

a bout of "not getting trashed" is most definitely on the cards from here on in. speaking of too old, i think i'm too old to treat my body like some sort of experiment anymore. i think the key is "moderation"...hmmmm how boring...but necessary.

i hope interpol are terrible so my friends wish they were sick like me and sitting at home on a friday night...see what a nice guy i reall am haha...

It didn't really excite me too much either, Will. I wouldn't worry too much about missing out. Hope you feel better soon!

And I concur re: Guitar Man's one move he'd practised. He looked rather out of place, I must say. He needs to work on his 'disinterested' stance.

Daniel does have the one move and i find it HILAROUS that he walks up to the front with his 'sexface' on like hes going to do something AMAZING then...doesnt and steps back. but he has amazing dancy feet like hes going to slip over. Im waiting for him to do that one day. I will laugh.

I especially liked Carlos 'oh ill just rest my bass, above my head and over my shoulder, yes this doesnt weight a ton, this is so comfortable' move.

had the same experience when i saw them open up for the cure. sounds just like the studio cut albums (is that good or bad, i dunno) but louder and less articulated.

but the cure was amazing!
